Here is some important information that all students, especially new students, need to know.

DAYS ON WHICH LESSONS ARE GIVEN
Each student's binder will have a printout showing the specific dates of lessons for that particular day of the week. If a date is not listed there will be no lessons on that date. Please note that we have a longer winter break this year beginning on December 19, the week before school ends. The complete instructional calendar is available under "More Information" on our web site at harmonyhouse.ca.

RESCHEDULING LESSONS
Specific make-up times as well as other students' cancellations will be posted in the schedule. Check for possible make-up times using the Parent/student Portal if you need to miss a weekly lesson due to illness. When you cancel your lesson a temporary make-up credit will be issued to let you select an available make-up time before your next regular lesson, and your change will be confirmed immediately. Alternatively, please call us. If you know well in advance, or if you need to reschedule several lessons, please call or e-mail with as much notice as possible and we will attempt to find a make-up time.

Occasionally a conflict arises with another ongoing activity. If this happens you may need to change the day or time of your lesson on a longer term basis. Please let us make the arrangements rather than attempting to cancel and reschedule every weekly lesson yourself.

Unfortunately we usually won't be able to make up lessons missed due to vacation trips.

Make-up credits, if issued, are only for enabling signing up for make-up lessons in the short term and have no intrinsic value.

STORM DAY MAKE-UPS
We are providing for specific storm day make-up lesson days in the instructional calendar.

Some students have an allowance for one storm day in this year's schedule; this will be made up at the teacher's discretion. Here is a link to our complete studio policies.

DAILY PRACTICE
An optional feature of the Parent/student Portal is that you can keep track of your practice times and pieces being worked on. You can also send a note from the practice log if you need help with a particular piece.

Welcome Spring! Here is our April update.

Make-up days and Scheduled Break — Change of Plan

Tuesday April 18 to Sunday April 23 is a scheduled break, and there are no lessons on those days.

This coming week has scheduled make-up days for storm days or other absences. Monday students have lessons as usual April 10 but there is a change from the original plan, and I wish to see all students if possible, at your usual time this week right through to Monday April 17. Continuity is important and we do not want students to go two weeks without a lesson.

We realize that April 14 to 17 is Easter weekend.  Please let us know if you will be away that weekend.

Everyone will receive an automatic reminder.

Student Portal Help

We encourage everyone to use the parent/student portal to access your lesson schedule and cancel/change lessons if that is necessary, as well as check your account details etc. A new feature is that parents and students now have the option to click "Help" in the top right corner to get answers to some of the frequently asked questions.

This is a reminder that there are no piano lessons this March Break week from Sunday March 5 to Saturday March 11. Lessons will resume Sunday March 12.

Welcome back to music lessons, everyone. Here is our January update.

We had a wonderful time with group lessons and parties for the young students and the adults in December and January. It is our pleasure to do parties as they are great motivators, and we are happy to see everyone doing well with their music. The Valentine piano parties will be coming up in February, and we will send invitations around the 25th of January.

Official receipts for purposes of the Children’s Arts Tax Credit will be issued before the end of January. These will be sent by e-mail and will also be available through the parent/student portal under the Invoices tab in “Accounts and Invoices”. The government has eliminated this tax credit in 2017.

Beginning February 1st the billing notices will be simpler:

• they will show only the amount due rather than being a full statement;
• for people using automatic payments it will be clear on the notice that no payment is required – you will also get an instant receipt; and
• receipts will be sent for every payment received, including post-dated cheques when they are processed.

The "harmonyhouse robots" will streamline and automate things as much as possible.
